Crusty French Baguette

This week, with the holidays approaching, we wanted to share another warm, fresh recipe you can use with many meals and perhaps even at your Thanksgiving table. Chef Joey shares his Crusty French Baguette recipe as a stand alone treat with some real creamy butter or as the perfect meal accompaniment. This is an easy to follow recipe including a photo tutorial. So share often and enjoy!

  • 2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup (4oz) fresh yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbls sugar
  • 5 cups flour

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Fresh yeast (yummy). If you ask really nicely the HyVee bakery will sell you some.

  3. Mix yeast with water then add flour, salt and sugar and mix until fully incorporated.

  4. Divide dough into three pieces and roll into long baguette shapes, place on a sheet pan and score the tops.

     

  5. Place on top of warm oven covered with a towel for 15 minutes.

  6. Then, remove towel and bake for 15-18 minutes.
